todayi was welding and some pictures were taken of me for the yearbook. i welded stainless steel today which i do often but its quite difficult.stainless steel has nickel in it, which has a lower melting pint then the other copmounds in the steele which make the steel have its stainless or un-rustable feature. but since its melting point is much lower, it can get to hot and melt right out of the steel which is nicknamed "sugar" and make the steel just regular steel. to weld this type of steel you have to use a very low amperage and keep the heat concentrated on the cooler metal, not the preheated metal. since its welded at such a low temperature, (which is still so hot that it sunburns the crap out of my arms) the weld doesnt have the same color as most other welds. the ideal color for a stainless steel weld is a peach color or blue. i took some pics so you can see the weld.
on another note, the rear seat cowl for my motorcycle that i ordered last week was shipped today and it fits just fine. not perfect but good enough. cant wait for next week at about this time. i will be almost ready for MEXICO. its going to be so much fun.
